🎙️ EXPITALITY TIME LIVE! ☕️ Don't Let the Darkness Fool You!
Dec 29, 2023 Season 1 Episode 2
Michelle Oliver

In today's episode of Expitality Time LIVE!, I explore the concept of joy as a state of being independent of circumstances. I've dedicated this episode to Ray and Cecilia, whose story embodies a contagious, toe-tapping gladness. Joy, as defined here, is akin to the feeling elicited by an upbeat, catchy song that compels you to move your body. It's that involuntary foot-tapping experience that many can relate to.

I did some research and discovered that this phenomenon is real. Spotify even has a playlist titled "Toe Tapping Happy Singalong Songs." The idea is simple – play the song, and your foot instinctively starts tapping to the beat, inducing a sense of joy. This type of happiness is not contingent on external circumstances. Today, despite being the shortest and darkest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere, marks the beginning of the season of joy.

Winter solstice, with its long night, might appear gloomy, but I believe that even in seemingly dark conditions, unexpected moments of joy can emerge. It's reminiscent of the phenomenon described by Bob Wills – the happiest sad song. Regardless of your role in the hospitality sector – be it indoor, outdoor, RV, restaurant, boutique hotel, or glamping – you have the power to influence others positively and draw joy from seemingly challenging situations. I witness this uplifting transformation daily.

So, on this darkest day of the year, I encourage you to seek joy in the small things around you. No matter the circumstances, you have the unique ability to impact those you encounter. Embrace the Bob Wills spirit – turning moments of difficulty into sources of joy. For Ray and Cecilia, I'll be wearing red and dancing under the darkening sky here in Colorado, symbolizing the triumph of joy over darkness. Wishing you all a joyous holiday season.

Join me in celebrating the resilience of joy – a happiness that transcends the challenges of the darkest days.
